How to make a messy bun
April 14, 2012
Nobody wants to seem like they’re trying too hard. Maybe that’s why looking hyper-polished is out and looking casually disheveled is in. We’re not suggesting that you actually roll up to a party with bedhead, but faking a little messy, devil-may-care style is all the rage these days. So how can you make this style your own?
A messy bun starts with textured hair. If you’ve got natural waves or curls, skip the blowdryer and let your hair air-dry while you sleep for tresses that’ll make for a perfect bun in the morning.
Have pin-straight locks? Add a little attitude by infusing some gel into your tresses and pulling wet hair into a loose braid while it dries. When you let it down in the morning, you’ll have yourself some waves.
Now that your hair is ready, it’s time to make the bun. Gather hair in your hand and pile it haphazardly onto the back of your head. Secure with a hair tie, then pin any loose sections back. Pull out a few pieces to frame your face, and voila! You’re ready to hit the mall, the park or even a fancy restaurant with your new style. And yes, the look even works for a hot date!
